New Roundabout Provides Easy Access to Carmel Arts & Design District
Intersection of 136th Street and Range Line Road reopened to traffic on Aug. 9

August 11, 2008

Carmel, Ind. – The roundabout at 136th Street and Range Line Road reopened as scheduled, on Saturday, Aug. 9. This roundabout, which has been completed in less than 60 days, is part of an infrastructure improvement that included the installation of curbing and storm sewers to the north of the intersection.

Patrons of the Carmel Arts & Design District can now access their favorite eateries, galleries and specialty shops with improved ease, and much less traffic.

The roundabout project has been underway since June 16, said Gary Duncan, project lead for the City of Carmel.

“Even though the intersection is now open to cars and pedestrians, final finish work will continue through the month of August as crews continue to place new sidewalks, ramps, lighting and sod,” he explained.

The roundabout opening is good news for the more than 100 vendors and service providers that make their home in Old Town Carmel, added Sherry Mielke, Director of Operations for the Carmel Arts & Design District.

“We appreciate the city’s efforts to give us the roads we need to support the flow of traffic in and out of events with regional draw, like Rock the District,” Mielke said. “Making our District more accessible to visitors is key to our future success.”
