JUNE 1 - Cohen-Rutkowski Project

The Cohen-Rutkowski Project is a dynamic and multi-stylistic ensemble of performers who are equally proficient in jazz and rhythm and blues. Built around composer and pianist Chris Rutkowski and saxophonist Rich Cohen, its basic unit adds bass and drums to form an instrumental quartet. The group expands to a quintet with the addition of the exceptional vocalist Renee Gonzalez.

Co-lead by saxophonist Rich Cohen and pianist/composer Chris Rutkowski, Cohen-Rutkowski Music has several manifestations. The Cohen-Rutkowski Project focuses on sophisticated but high-energy acoustic jazz with a strong component of originals. The Cohen-Rutkowski Mix is a hard-grooving R&B based ensemble and The Mix is an events band that can equally satisfy the cultured listener and rock the dance floor! The Cohen-Rutkowski Duo (sax/piano) covers all these bases in a more intimate manner.

Listeners have drawn comparisons to the compositionally-oriented Dave Brubeck group, groovy hard-bop groups such as The Jazz Messengers as well as genre-expanders like the Roy Hargrove Quintet.

Their featured songs are NOLA, Double Barrel Rhythm Thing and Cantaloupe Island
