Garvey Simon Art Access

GSAA was founded in early 2010 by sisters Elizabeth Garvey and Catherine Garvey Simon; both women are from Indianapolis and now live on opposite coasts.  Each having a passion for fine art, they realized that together they could share their enthusiasm and their knowledge to help demystify the fine art world to the inexperienced.

Elizabeth Garvey has been a fine art dealer and advisor in New York City for over 20 years.  She is a graduate of Brebeuf Preparatory School (’84) and Indiana University (’88).  After moving to New York City in 1989 to attend the CUNY/Hunter College Master’s Program in Art History, she was appointed Associate and then Co-Director of Schmidt-Bingham Gallery on 57th Street.  Liz started her own fine art advisory firm, EKG Art Advisory in 1999; she has assisted collectors from all parts of the country, including Indianapolis,  to establish and build art collections, and has helped many individuals purchase their first piece of fine art. She has a professional relationship with countless New York art galleries, auction houses, private dealers and artists nationwide.   After ten years as an art advisor, Liz  longed to work more closely with artists again.  In forming Garvey Simon Art Access with her sister, she is excited about the possibility of organizing exhibitions in different venues, working with artists she respects, discovering fresh talent, and educating new collectors.

Catherine Garvey Simon brings her passion for art from a Collector's point of view.  Catherine is also a Brebeuf graduate (‘98) and received a B.A. from St. Louis University (’02).  She moved to New York in 2002, and soon thereafter began working for Simon Property Group in their New York leasing office. While in Manhattan, Catherine made many visits to art galleries, art fairs, and museums with her sister.  This sparked a new interest and also gave root to an awareness about the inaccessibility of fine art to the general public. In 2006, Catherine relocated to the West Coast to marry Stephen H. Simon, also an Indy native and longtime friend of the Garvey family. Subsequently, Catherine and Steve began to build their own fine art collection together.  Catherine specifically understands the perspective of those considering a first time art purchase.  As a young collector, she has seen how looking for a piece of art can be an overwhelming and intimidating experience; and how having a conduit to help navigate the “do’s and don’ts” can make all the difference.
