ArtSplash Gallery

"For the month of November, ArtSplash Gallery will focus on holiday shopping ideas for business associates, family and friends. In addition to the new artwork regularly introduced each month, the gallery will feature an expanded selection of smaller 2D and 3D works sized and priced for gift purchases. Whatever your choice of medium or style, original artwork can fit any budget and can be a unique gift that will be enjoyed for years to come. It's always appropriate to give yourself a gift, too; a little reward for all that you do for others at this busy time of year."

Handmade Journal and Book Show

Eye On Art Gallery will feature several artists working in the area of handmade journals and books. The artists have a common tie to Ball State University and include professors in the English and Art Department as well as students and graduates.

Rai Peterson, Associate Professor of English at Ball State University. She has studied many small-press publishers and little magazines during the period, both their literary output and printing and binding methods. Recently, she has been exploring the use of vintage maps in the binding of travel journals. Laura Kuhlman, graduate of Ball State University, is currently a graduate student at the University of Iowa, where she is studying literature and is simultaneously a student at the Center for the Book. Laura makes intricate case-bound books from delicate papers with open spines. Karen Ruling, graduate of the English Department at Ball State University. Karen is the daughter of a costume designer, and her work shows unusual sartorial flair, both in choice of leathers and fabrics and elaborate closure systems using buttons and buckles. Maddy Witek, graduate of English and commercial printing departments at Ball State University. Her work concentrates on classically-bound case-books made with high-grade drawing papers and decorated paper-covered bindings. Additional works will be exhibited by David and Sarojni Johnson.

ABOUT FACE: Peculiar Portraits
Garvey Simon Art Access is proud to present ABOUT FACE: Peculiar Portraits, a photography exhibition dedicated to the portrait, curated by Lee Marks of Lee Marks Fine Art. Ms. Marks is a private photography dealer, consultant and founding member of the Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD). The show will feature works by eleven artists in a variety of photo-based media and will be centered on the use of portraiture in both traditional and non-traditional guises. The exhibition will run from October 20 – November 26, 2011. There will be a reception the evening of November 12 to celebrate this exhibition, which will coincide with the Second Saturday Gallery Walk in the Carmel Arts + Design District.

If eyes are “the windows to the soul,” the face might offer a road map to one’s personality, eccentric in all its twists and turns. With 15 photographs from the late 1940s to the present, this exhibition seeks to present faces of human beings and animals depicted realistically, abstractly, cut off, and even absent. Technical and formal peculiarities of the medium offer as much commentary as the represented faces.
Photographers represented include; Jen David, Susan Derges, Nina Korhonen, Chuck Close, Andre Kertesz, Weegee, Mariana Cook, Neil Selkirk, Mike Smith, Andrew Borowiec, and Jeffrey Becom.
