District Events Taking Place Prior to Gallery Walk

Lecture Series at the Evan Lurie Gallery

Art can be beautiful, terrifying, intriguing or confusing. However you feel about a certain work, education is key to appreciation. Visit the Arts & Design District prior to the evening Gallery Walk for a very special lecture series to learn from the artists whose works will be exhibited that evening.”

  • 1:00 p.m.
    Jorge Santos, an Portuguese artist whose work has appeared on the covers of magazines such as Juxtapose and American Art Collector and on television shows such as NBC’s “Will and Grace”, will be lecturing prior the show at 1 pm in the gallery. Santos will also be on site for the event, which will display his newest body of work completed over the last year.

  • 2:30 p.m.
    Stephen Shaheen, a marble and granite sculptor based out of New York who trained in Italy and earned his MFA from the New York Academy of Art in 2005, will be lecturing prior to the show at 2:30 pm in the gallery. Shaheen is also president and artist of the Memoria Project, a not-for-profit entity dedicated to the design and realization of a 100-ton marble and granite landscape installation in New Jersey. The project, which has been profiled in the New York Times, is a tribute honoring the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

Art in the PARK-ing Lot

Start the evening off early with “Art in the PARK-ing Lot” that’s fun for the whole family!

The Arts & Design District Business Association of Carmel (ADDBAC ) presents the inaugural Art in the PARK-ing lot, an event to encourage families to come together to explore the arts, together, on Saturday, April 18th from 2-5. Art in the PARK-ing lot will kick off the Arts & Design District's Gallery Walk which runs later that evening from 5-10. Fourth through twelfth grade artists from Carmel’s Midwest Academy of Indiana, along with other local youth artists will display and sell their work ranging from pottery and watercolors to bonsai and photography. Artists will be set up in the National City Bank parking lot on the corner of Range Line Road and Main Street. Face painting, balloons and other family activities will also be offered.
